Nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains in southern Spain, Granada is a city that blends history, culture, and breathtaking landscapes. Known for its famous Alhambra, Moorish influence, vibrant flamenco scene, and stunning architecture, Granada is a city that can’t be missed!
We explored Granada multiple times, and share our experience in this blog!
A Glimpse into Granada’s Past
Granada’s history is deeply intertwined with its Moorish past. The city was the last stronghold of Muslim rule in Spain before the Catholic Monarchs reclaimed it in 1492. This fusion of Moorish, Christian, and Jewish influences has left a mark on the city’s architecture, traditions, and overall charm.

Things to Do in Granada
1. The Alhambra
No visit to Granada is complete without exploring the Alhambra, an UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Spain’s most iconic landmarks. This magnificent palace complex was built by the Nasrid rulers and showcases stunning Islamic architecture, intricate tilework, and lush gardens. Be sure to book tickets in advance, as entry slots fill up quickly.
There are several ticket options, including general admission (covering the Nasrid Palaces, Generalife, and Alcazaba), night visits, and garden-only tickets.
Get your tickets here.
2. Basílica de San Juan de Dios
This hidden gem is one of hour favorite places to visit. This church is lesser-known but breathtakingly beautiful with its golden decorations and frescoes. It offers a more intimate yet equally mesmerizing experience compared to the grandeur of the Alhambra.
Tickets are €12,- and include an audio tour. You can but the tickets at the entrance.
3. The Albaicín district
The Albaicín is Granada’s old Moorish quarter, characterized by its labyrinth of narrow streets and whitewashed houses. Walking through this neighborhood feels like stepping back in time. Don’t miss the stunning views of the Alhambra from Mirador de San Nicolás, one of the most picturesque spots in the city, especially when the sun sets and the locals are playing music.

From here it is just a few steps to one of our favorite restaurants to have a break and enjoy the amazing view over Granada and the Alhambra: La Terazza Juanranas.
4. Alcaicería Bazaar
For an unique shopping experience, head to the Alcaicería Bazaar, a lively market with the vibes of an Arabic souk. Once a major center for silk trade, this marketplace now offers colorful ceramics, jewelry, and handcrafted souvenirs that reflect Granada’s rich artistic heritage.
The perfect place to find a souvenir!

5. Granada Cathedral
The Catedral de Granada is a masterpiece of Spanish Renaissance architecture. Built on the site of a former mosque, this grand cathedral boasts impressive columns, stained glass windows, and a stunning altar. Adjacent to the cathedral, the Royal Chapel (Capilla Real) houses the tombs of Ferdinand and Isabella, making it a must-visit for history lovers.
Entrance tickets are €7,-.

6. Flamenco show at Casa Ana
Granada is one of the best places in Spain to witness authentic flamenco, and Casa Ana offers an intimate setting to experience this passionate dance. For us this was the perfect way to end our day in this amazing city! The passion and emotion that the dancers and musicians show, are unrivaled. Casa Ana is tucked away in the heart of the city. This city has amazing tapas restaurants as every Spanish city has. But if you love the Arabic cuisine just as much as us we can really recommend these places:
1. Taj Halal Restaurant: Morrocan cuisine
For delicious halal cuisine, Taj Halal Restaurant is a fantastic choice. This spot is known for a variety of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean dishes. The owners are so friendly and the food tastes amazing en authentic.

2. Baklava & tea at a Tetería
Granada has a strong North African influence, and its teterías (tea houses) are a testament to this heritage. While wandering through the Albacín district we stumbled up on a small tea house.
